Once upon a time…the end.

Today, March 20, we celebrate National Storytelling Day, a global commemoration of the art of oral storytelling. I’m reminded of the time when my daughter was little, and how I enjoyed the evenings when I put her to bed with a story read from one of her children’s books. We’d curl up in her tot-sized bed with the pink headboard, and together we read the words (she helped) and oohed over the pretty pictures. But, true confession, folks, there were nights when, overwhelmed with so many chores still to do, I tried to get away this:

“Once upon a time…they lived happily ever after. The end.”

It never worked! My daughter was just too smart to be fooled, I guess. Show of hands, I’m sure I’m not the only parent who’s tried to get away with this?

Happy National Storytelling Day. The end.
