Writing the stories about children of the Pearl

Boy of the Pearl coming soon.

M. Celeste Ramos Martin

My family presents the classic immigrant story. One day when I was a pre-teen, my mother announced that she wanted to move to the United States. And so, we did. I’m fortunate to have experienced the best of two worlds—the colorful, spirited country of my birth, the Philippines, and the rich, vibrant United States of America.

 The Pearl of the Orient

Scattered upon the South China Sea, just north of the equator, are the seven thousand islands and islets comprising the Philippine nation, also known as the Pearl of the Orient for its beauty. If you were to push off into the sea from one of its westernmost provinces, soon enough you'll run aground somewhere on mainland Asia. Stand on the eastern coast, however, and all you'll find is an expanse of Pacific waters flowing ceaselessly toward the distant point where the sun appears.
